OLDSMAR, Fla. (WFLA) — After seeking help from more than 50 specialists in Canada, one woman decided to come to Florida to get her health back on track.
Suffering for 12 years from the effects of Lyme Disease, mold toxicity, and industrial toxins, Cecile Gough knew it was time to take her health back into her own hands.
“I just couldn’t wait any longer, after 12 years of my life falling apart, for the medical system in Canada to get it together,” said Gough.
Denied out-of-country funding by the Ministry of Health in Canada, she is paid out of pocket to travel thousands of miles to be treated at the Sponaugle Wellness Institute in Oldsmar, where she has been treated for the past four months.
“I chose him because no one is doing what he is doing,” said Gough.
Gough claims the price tag is well worth it.
“I came here using canes to walk most of the time, and today, I am in heels,” said Gough.
90 percent of Doctor Sponaugle’s patients are medical tourists from out of the state, and 25 percent come from out of the country.
Doctor Sponaugle believes his unique approach to healing makes his institute a destination for those across the world, and seeing those patients succeed makes it all worth it.
“It’s very exciting. We have had 30 patients in the last two-and-a-half years come out of their wheelchairs, and it’s very exciting,” said Dr. Sponaugle.
News Channel 8 also reached out to Tampa General Hospital, and a representative says people fly in every day to get treated at their specialized centers.
